Obituary

Amos Turner, 96, beloved husband of Edith Turner (née Singer) happily married for 68 years; loving father of Helene Turner, Nancy (David) Jacobson and David (Christina) Turner; cherished Papa of Eric (Ashley) Jacobson, Michelle (Andrew) Salomone, Nicholas Turner and Alexander Turner; adored great-grandfather of Alice and Joseph. Amos was treasured by nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Amos survived the Holocaust working in plain sight in Germany after skillfully taking on the identify of a Catholic, Polish displaced person. He arrived in America on Labor Day 1950. In addition to building a successful engineering firm after earning a master’s in electrical engineering at night, while working as a draftsman, Amos gave thousands of hours to various causes including Israeli Bonds, Hadassah (supporting Edith’s efforts) and his Synagogue. His beloved family marveled as he exercised daily with unmatched discipline until the months before his death. Amos’ love of skiing, tennis, golf, and aqua aerobics gave him tremendous joy. His exceptionally optimistic outlook on all subjects was as dependable as the rising sun and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Edith – Amos was such a pleasure to “run into” or visit with. We were not good friends, but through Fred Bernheim, we became happy acquaintances. We know you will miss him greatly, but we hope Amos’ memory will always be a blessing to you and your family.

I wanted to express my condolences to Edith and the whole family. I remember Amos, Edith, Helene, Nancy, and David attending my wedding in Brooklyn. Over the years I have kept in touch with Amos and I found his and Edith’s videos about their time during the Shoah very inspirational. My father was the Rabbi who married Amos and Edith. May you be comforted among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem
